The Peacock Flounder

These fun fish display flowery markings of tan and blue with the potential to grow to 45cm/18in. Belonging to the lefteye flounder family, this #fishfriend begins it's life with an eye on each side of the body like most other fish. As they reach adulthood, the eyes move to one side allowing them to horizontally rest or glide over the sea bottom. #peacockflounder #fishyfactfriday

While the video footage is a little dated, you have to appreciate the effort these 2 flounders put in to their flirtatious ritual. I remember spending a good 30 minutes following these 2 as they meandered around the reef up and over the hills and valleys of the hardpan at Queens Throne on the north wall. Quite the #nationalgeographicmoment !!
